West Nile Found In Mosquitoes In Abington And Whitemarsh

ABINGTON, PA — West Nile Virus has been confirmed in mosquitoes in Abington and Whitemarsh townships, the state announced on Tuesday. The discovery marks the first cases of West Nile in Montgomery County in 2019. One positive sample was found in each township, according to the Pennsylvania Department of Environmental Protection. The specific locations were not disclosed. A total of eight positives were found around the state in the most recent round of testing done by the state’s West Nile Control Program.

Officials with the DEP and the Montgomery County Department of Health are responding to the samples “as needed.” No chemical spraying has yet been announced. West Nile virus appeared for the first time in Pennsylvania in birds, mosquitoes and a horse in 2000.

It is most commonly spread to humans by infected mosquitoes. It can cause febrile illness, encephalitis, or meningitis, according to the CDC.

The best way to control mosquitoes is still to get rid of standing water on your property.

The following guidelines have been offered to help residents minimize their risk:

• Limit outdoor activities at dawn and dusk during warmer months since most types of mosquitoes bite most frequently during these times. Be aware though that some types of mosquitoes bite most frequently during the daytime.

• Wear long-sleeved shirts and long pants, and socks. Choose clothing that is light colored and made of tightly woven material.

• Stay in places with air conditioning and window and door screens to keep mosquitoes outside.

• Sleep under a mosquito bed net if you are outside.

• Cover or empty containers such as trash cans, wading pools, wheelbarrows, and pots.

• Turn containers upside down when not in use so they don’t collect water.

• Drill holes in the bottom of recycling containers.

• Get rid of old tires.

• Change the water in bird baths every three to five days.

• Check storm drains, window wells, and underneath leaky faucets for standing water.

Lost Service Dog: Murphy

From the legal guardian:

8 months ago today, Murphy went missing & was the last time he was seen. Today also marks 8 months that Mr Morris was first rushed to the hospital. Unfortunately, his owner Morris passed away on April 19th after losing his battle with cancer. He is missed very much💔I will continue to do everything I can to honor ALL of his wishes, finding Murphy is one of them.

Until the day he is back in my arms, I won’t stop! He still has a home, a family who loves him & is missed dearly.

He is microchipped & I am his legal owner.

I will continue to do everything I can to bring him home.

Murphy will be 3 in this month.

He is an unaltered male Belgian Malinois

He has a black face, ears & paws. His body is fawn. He is sweet, goofy & extremely loving.

He IS microchipped.

*Thank you everyone who continues to help. The fact that so many people are still keeping an eye out after 8 months means so much to me*

Common Sense Gun Laws

Guns are dangerous in the wrong hands, no matter how much some would like to think otherwise. The fact remains we do need more common-sense gun laws and control.

We need to ban assault rifles, for civilian use. Ak47(WASR-10), Remington, M4, and M16 just to name a few, should not be accessible for civilians. Especially, those who are mentally unstable. Who are not only a danger to themselves, yet to others as well.

Those with a criminal background should be disallowed from purchasing and owning, those who are unstable should be denied. Thorough background checks need to be done.

Weapons Dealers (private sellers) sorry to say should have a license to sell and carry and be registered. As well as take classes to notice the signs of instability. I say this because of the constant mass shootings happening over the past few years. Everyone who owns or plans to purchase needs to register themselves.

This will cut crimes in half and make police work more efficient. By way of finding the owners faster during a shootout investigation.

These are consequences for horrid actions. I know I can’t be the only one tired of these travesties. Human life is precious, just like all life is.

Quite frankly, I don’t care for the NRA since they really have not been doing their true job. Which is supposed to mainly be for gun safety education. Yet lately it has been for lobbying on gun rights and ownership. instead of trying to place common-sense laws.

Truthfully I doubt they care about public safety anymore since they have been a big buyer for anti-law bills.

In order to fight for common-sense laws, people need to attend town meetings with facts and a calm demeanor.

Let me make this perfectly clear I’m not saying take guns away. I’m saying ban assault rifles that have been the biggest part of mass shootings. Assault rifles have been banned before during the Clinton administration and the massacres/gun violence WAS at an all-time low. We need to implement that law again for the populace’s safety.

We will work on a plan, statement for our area to present. When done we will share it here for others to use as a foothold for public safety.

Found a kissing bug?

/Precautions and Procedure

Citizen science offers the opportunity for non-scientists and scientists to work together to collect large amounts of data. This project is currently seeking the help of citizens scientist (like you!) To submit carefully collected kissing bugs from Texas and throughout the U.S.

We are interested in learning more about the distribution of different species of kissing bugs, their interactions with host species. If you have come across a suspected kissing bug in or around your home, kennel, yard, or other area, we are interested in hearing about it.

Changes For Life To Be Better

Change is a big deal for most. Change albeit difficult must happen in order to have any chance of success in life or in happiness.

What has been happening in today’s society is a true travesty of humanity. From hate wars, open racism, and prejudices. From discrimination of the LGBTQ and the death of transgenders.

Nothing is right in the world, today. Nothing is right due to the fact that there is no open-mindedness and no tolerance. There is only intolerance and ignorance.

How can we change this? We can change this by bringing education to the masses. The true history of each culture and ethnic background. The true history of America, of how the first settlers and conquistadors treated the Natives of this land. The fight the LGBTQ community has had to go through.

Bringing back the real history may just prevent a repetition of events in the future.

It starts with us. It starts with teaching the difference and teaching the acceptance of everyone. It starts by standing United against hatred and racial injustices.

I for one hope to make a difference in the lives of others by advocating and acting on behalf of those who can’t speak due to tyranny and for those who have zero freedom.

I am working on a petition currently requesting that schools bring back the true history of Native Americans and other areas of importance in their curriculum. Seeing as since I left high school they stopped teaching the trail of tears and the history of Cortez, plus the history of the liberty statue. All of which is a big part of American history.

I will share it here when it’s complete.
