This post will be short. Quite frankly, I’m tired of treating companions for heat exhaustion and stroke.

Stop leaving your companions outside during hot days. Don’t leave them in the car either. Even for 5 minutes. Your car is like an oven.

Like young children they can’t regulate their body temperature. The heat will literally cook their brain. First signs of heating problems. Over excessive drooling. Panting more heavily. And then they sieze.

Moreover, if you don’t seek medical help they will die.

Police have given permission in most states for civilians to break animals out of your car. So don’t be surprised if you come to find a broken window and your animal at a Veterinarian Hospital.

You WILL NOT get your animal back either.

It’s your responsibility to keep them safe and healthy. If you can’t hold up to your responsibilities then you don’t deserve to have companion animals.

Shadow Banning Advocates

Twitter has decided to shadowban not only my account yet that of my friend Gwen. I wonder if Twitter realizes just how detrimental that is to animal welfare.

We have followed their TOS to a T. Yet they have decided to secretly block our tweets. Our petition still needs signatures to pass legislation. Yet with this ban, It may not happen.

Winter Season and Animal Care

Winter is here and that means colder temperatures. Which also means strays will hide in your car. This being said we are urging everyone to check under their hoods and in their tires, before revving up that engine.

We also urge everyone to not leave their companions out overnight. The only time they should be let out is to relieve themselves and or for a couple of minutes of play time, with supervision.

Think of it like this if it’s too cold for you it’s definitely too cold for them.

Bring them in. We would hate to see more companions wind up in the emergency vet room due to winter exposure. (Frostbite).

Halloween and Companions

With Halloween right around the corner, veterinarians and shelters become rather busy. A majority of people do not realize just how spooky and or dangerous it can be for companion animals. Gwen and I have been swamped this whole month because of celebrations going awry. Many people have brought in companion animals suffering from Chocolate toxicity, and other injuries.

Please be aware that companion animals CANNOT have CHOCOLATE. If you want to give your companions a treat for the holidays, look into getting Carob pet treats. It’s non-toxic and 100% natural. Chocolate is a 100% dangerous even for cats, it causes seizures, anemia as well as death.

If it’s not hazardous foods, its being spooked by costumes and loud noises. Remember even companions get skittish around strange events. In order to prevent your companion from running off, or becoming overwhelmed, we suggest making a room just for them. Placing their food and water bowl, along with their favorite toys and comfort to keep them calm. If the music and party is too much for them, put a white noise machine on.

If your companion happens to get a hold of anything hazardous. PLEASE SEEK EMERGENCY CARE IMMEDIATELY.

FDA Cautions Pet Owners Not to Feed Performance Dog Raw Pet Food Due to Salmonella, Listeria monocytogenes

The U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) is cautioning pet owners not to feed their pets any Performance Dog frozen raw pet food after a sample tested positive for Salmonella and Listeria monocytogenes (L. mono).
Two samples of different finished products collected during an inspection of Bravo Packing, Inc., the manufacturer of Performance Dog raw pet food, tested positive for Salmonella and/or L. mono. One of the products sampled had not yet been distributed.
The product that entered the marketplace is Performance Dog raw pet food, lot code 072219, sold to customers frozen in two-pound pouches. However, the FDA is cautioning about all Performance Dog frozen raw pet food produced on or after July 22, 2019 because the products do not have lot codes printed on retail packaging. If you have any Performance Dog product that you purchased after July 22, 2019, throw it away.
FDA is issuing this alert because Performance Dog raw pet food represents a serious threat to human and animal health. Because these products are sold and stored frozen, FDA is concerned that people may still have them in their possession.
Salmonella and L. mono can affect both human and animal health. People with symptoms of Salmonella or L. monoinfection should consult their health care providers. Consult a veterinarian if your pet has symptoms of Salmonella or L. monoinfection.

What products are involved?

Bravo Packing, Inc. Performance Dog products are sold frozen in two-pound plastic pouches. Lot codes are printed on the outside of the boxes used to distribute the product, but the lot codes are not printed on the individual sealed plastic pouches, also known as chubs. Therefore, there are no unique identification numbers on the individual chubs that would allow customers to verify whether their product belongs to the affected lot.

If you have Performance Dog raw pet food that you purchased after July 22, 2019, or you are uncertain of the date of purchase, and you cannot determine the lot code, FDA recommends that you exercise caution and throw the product away.

Blue-Green Algae That Can Kill Dogs Has Just Been Found in New York City Parks

A toxic blue-green algae that is potentially lethal to dogs has been found in three New York City park ponds––the latest place it’s cropped up after leaving a trail of sick and dead pets across North Carolina, Texas and Georgia.

According to the New York City Department of Parks and Recreation, the blue-green algae was found in two Central Park ponds and another pond in Prospect Park.

Blue-green algae, also known as Cyanobacteria, is a microorganism that is caused by high nutrients, stagnant water, high temperatures and low oxygen, according to the New York City Department of Parks and Recreation.

“Algae is a natural occurrence that blooms heavily in warm weather and sunlight. Most urban ponds have water high in nutrients like phosphorus, which encourage algae growth,” a statement said. “Most algae are harmless and are important parts of aquatic ecosystems, but blooms that produce blue-green algae (BGA) can be toxic.”

Cat Declawing: It’s Wrong

We need signatures, in order to be able to even think about handing in our petition, to outlaw cat declawing in the state of Pennsylvania.

Without your help, this barbaric practice will continue. The effects of declawing any cat outweigh mere item damage. Cats who’ve been declawed live life in pain. Never putting full weight on their paws, some get infections to where they need surgery to correct the damage caused. This can lead to more tissue death. Others become mentally ill by way of constantly licking their paw, to the point of rawness and down to their bone. Others shake their paw constantly.

New York, has banned declawing, let’s work together to do the same here.

Declawing of cats has been a part of managing the scratching behavior of objects in cats. However, this barbaric tradition to protect ”items” and other material possession has caused more harm than good. Declawing cats has left them physically and mentally scarred for life.

We sit here on the precipice of destroying our beloved companions just to protect a few pieces of furniture or walls. All of which can easily be replaced, repaired and or protected by other humane ways.

Declawing of cats should never be an option. Scratching objects and or trees is a natural instinct for cats. The Medical drawbacks to declawing include pain in the paw, infection, tissue necrosis (tissue death), lameness, and back pain. Removing claws changes the way a cat’s foot meets the ground and can cause pain similar to wearing an uncomfortable pair of shoes.

Those who declaw are basically torturing cats for a lifetime. Some cats, even big cats in zoos go through life never placing full weight on paws, some even developed a mental disorder. Leading them to constantly lick and or shake their paw uncontrollably.

Not to mention if cats should escape outside how would they ever defend themselves against other cats or wildlife? They wouldn’t and due to that inability to defend or climb a tree, they would most likely die.

Why declaw when There are many alternatives to declawing that doesn’t leave a hazardous effect. Such as having professional clip nails as they do for dogs. Nail caps that can be adjusted to their size. And then there is double-sided tape to protect walls and door frames. Bumpers to protect furniture and non-toxic apple bitter to deter them from scratching up surfaces.

There’s also an environmentally friendly cat tree. Made of hemp, cardboard, dead tree bark and sea rope. All of which is biodegradable and reusable.

Declawing should be nonexistent, it should be considered animal cruelty and punishable if done/practiced by any person.

We the undersigned request for the prohibiting of declawing cats.

There’s also an environmentally friendly cat tree. Made of hemp, cardboard, dead tree bark and sea rope. All of which is biodegradable and reusable.

Please think before declawing and if your landlord requires declawing of cats, just give them the facts and tell them you will use caps. Usually, they will have no issues with you having a cat with claws then.
