Over 350 dogs are getting a second chance after police and animal activists intercepted a truck carrying the canines to China’s Yulin Dog Meat Festival.
According to Humane Society International (HSI), several days before the 2022 Yulin Dog Meat Festival started on June 21, police and animal activists in Shaanxi, China, intercepted a truck filled with canines heading to Yulin.
This post will be short. Quite frankly, I’m tired of treating companions for heat exhaustion and stroke.
Stop leaving your companions outside during hot days. Don’t leave them in the car either. Even for 5 minutes. Your car is like an oven.
Like young children they can’t regulate their body temperature. The heat will literally cook their brain. First signs of heating problems. Over excessive drooling. Panting more heavily. And then they sieze.
Moreover, if you don’t seek medical help they will die.
Police have given permission in most states for civilians to break animals out of your car. So don’t be surprised if you come to find a broken window and your animal at a Veterinarian Hospital.
You WILL NOT get your animal back either.
It’s your responsibility to keep them safe and healthy. If you can’t hold up to your responsibilities then you don’t deserve to have companion animals.
We have winter weather this year that has been causing degrees to drop in the lows of 6. That alone should be common sense enough to bring your animals inside.
However, common sense in this Era seems to be a rarity. People are being stupid and leaving their companions outside all night.
This leads to severe consequences. Hyperthermia, and death. You NEED TO BRING THEM INSIDE OR have an environmentally controlled habitat for them. Meaning a structure with heat and A.C for the summer time.
Bring them inside don’t let them die of hostile exposure.
We also must be vigilant when starting our cars. Stray animals find your car warm and will huddle up inside a tire well or engine. Before turning on your car, check your car.
Bang or open the hood, tap or check your tire wells, if you should find an animal and they refuse to come out. Call Animal Control. Do not attempt to remove the animal without proper equipment.
Which consists of gloves (work tough gloves) blankets and or towels, And a crate. Along with wet food and water. (And animal formula on hand.
always check your cars. Even if it’s not that cold or hot, check your car.

A home was being remodeled & they were accidentally closed in the walls. They could be heard & the worker took hours to break away at the wall & free them all. They were all not aggressive, but found to be very sick with panleukopenia from which they have fully recovered. At ACCT they’ve provided a variety of housing options, including low stress cage-less housing, Charmed and Ulysses have not made any progress demonstrating comfort interacting with humans. They do enjoy exploring their surroundings and lounging but are extremely stressed by human interaction, something which cannot be avoided in the shelter. They were found indoors and are unfortunately not candidates for return to field and previous attempts to locate working cat placements have not been fruitful. They would ideally be placed together, but it is not necessary if that is a barrier.

I have been debating whether or not to share this news with everyone. It breaks my heart that our Government in the state of Pennsylvania is heartless.
To Representatives, Senators and Lt Governor,I have attached the following document for you to look over. However, this barbaric tradition to protect ”items” and other material possession has caused more harm than good. Declawing cats has left them physically and mentally scarred for life. We sit here on the precipice of destroying our beloved companions just to protect a few pieces of furniture or walls. All of which can easily be replaced, repaired and or protected by other humane ways.
Declawing of cats should never be an option. Scratching objects and or trees is a natural instinct for cats. The Medical drawbacks to declawing include pain in the paw, infection, tissue necrosis (tissue death), lameness, and back pain. Removing claws changes the way a cat’s foot meets the ground and can cause pain similar to wearing an uncomfortable pair of shoes.
Those who declaw their cats are basically torturing cats for a lifetime. Some cats, even big cats in zoos go through life never placing full weight on paws, some even developed a mental disorder. Leading them to constantly lick and or shake their paw uncontrollably.
Not to mention if cats should escape outside how would they ever defend themselves against other cats or wildlife? They wouldn’t and due to that inability to defend or climb a tree, they would most likely die.
Why declaw when There are many alternatives to declawing that doesn’t leave a hazardous effect. Such as having professional clip nails as they do for dogs. Nail caps that can be adjusted to their size. And then there is double-sided tape to protect walls and door frames. Bumpers to protect furniture and non-toxic apple bitter to deter them from scratching up surfaces.
There’s also an environmentally friendly cat tree. Made of hemp, cardboard, dead tree bark and sea rope. All of which is biodegradable and reusable.
Declawing should be nonexistent, it should be considered animal cruelty and punishable if done/practiced by any person. I thank you for your time and understanding.

The fact that it took them 6 months is appalling. Don’t even get me started on meetings. This is a blanket statement and a complete letdown. If the state of Pennsylvania refuses to hear their people then it’s time to go over heads.
I don’t trust the Secretary of Muth. If Muth was so involved with animal welfare there would be a TNR program in place. There would be NO-Kill shelters and there would be no open door policy shelters either.
There are now over 3,000 signatures plenty to get the ball rolling with the upper legislation via the POTUS/House/Senate legislation. I will continue to push this issue.
Meow Mix-brand cat food sold by Walmart in eight states is being recalled because it might be contaminated with salmonella, manufacturer J.M. Smucker announced in a notice posted by the Food and Drug Administration.
Two lots of 30-pound bags of Meow Mix Original Choice Dry Cat Food are involved in the recall and were shipped to more than 1,100 Walmart stores in Illinois, Missouri, Nebraska, New Mexico, Oklahoma, Utah, Wisconsin and Wyoming.
The lot numbers are 1081804 with an expiration date of September 14, 2022, and 1082804 with an expiration date of September 15, 2022. Consumers with questions can call J.M. Smucker at (888) 569-6728, Monday through Friday, 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Eastern time, the company said.
Salmonella symptoms in felines include vomiting, diarrhea, lack of appetite and excessive drooling. People can also get salmonella from animals that have been in contact with contaminated food, or from handling it or touching unwashed surfaces that held them.
According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, salmonella infects 1.3 million Americans every year, killing about 420 and hospitalizing another 26,500. Those most at risk from salmonella include the elderly and children under five. Most of those stricken experience fever, vomiting, stomach pains, and diarrhea for four to seven days.
Put a box outside with a blanket or sweatshirt that you have worn. Cats have a very strong sense of smell and it will help them find their way home. Look for the cat at dusk and dawn (any time at night when it’s quiet) using a flashlight. Look under bushes, decks in sheds or garages – especially when it’s cold. The light reflects off the cats eyes and you will be able to see them a few blocks away. Shake their bag of treats. (This usually makes them come running home.)
Post flyers around the neighborhood. Not everyone has facebook. Also post them at pet stores and other places that have bulletin boards like WAWA. Give flyers to the mailmen and bus drivers in the area and ask your neighbors to check their sheds and garages. Call the vets, shelters and police in the area.
Getting your cat microchipped will help in the future if they should escape again.
FINDING INDOOR ONLY CATS WHO ARE LOST
Indoor only cats rarely travel far – they seek an immediate hiding place (under a deck or porch, under brush, in a garage or shed) and hunker down out of fear. Immediately start searching around your house as well as your neighbor’s houses with a flashlight (get on your hands and knees and shine the light under decks etc) – shake a treat bag and call it’s name and listen for a possible soft meow. (they are too scared to come out) ASK YOUR NEIGHBORS TO OPEN GARAGES AND SHEDS TO SEE IF THE CAT GOT LOCKED INSIDE.
They can stay in this spot for weeks! Indoor only cats RARELY come out during the day – they only come out after dark and into the wee hours of the morning. Be sure to check the surrounding trees as cats are often chased up trees and will sit up there for days and days….
Cats have an amazing sense of smell – put their bedding, your dirty clothes/shoes, and a tiny bit of strong smelling wet cat food outside to attract your cat.
Set a Humane trap (like a Hav-A-Heart wire trap) bait it with smelly cat food….this is sometimes the ONLY way to catch a scared indoor only cat AND IT WORKS!
Hang LOST posters immediately and give one to every neighbor as too many people just assume when they see a cat that it is a stray – if they know you are looking for your cat they will be extra vigilant and want to help. Ask them to take a photo of any cats they see in your area –sometimes people think it is your cat but it is not.
Immediately contact your Animal Control Officer and provide photos/description. Also contact local shelters, rescue groups and Vet offices. Post on Facebook on both local, county, & state pages (i.e. “Lost & Found Pets NY, NJ, PA, etc.)
Several dogs and cats (domestic cats and a tiger) in contact with infected humans have tested positive for COVID-19. In addition, ferrets appear to be susceptible to the infection. In experimental conditions, both cats and ferrets were able to transmit infection to other animals of the same species, but there is no evidence that these animals can transmit the disease to human and play a role in spreading COVID-19. COVID-19 is mainly spread through droplets produced when an infected person coughs, sneezes, or speaks.
It is still recommended that people who are sick with COVID-19 and people who are at risk limit contact with companion and other animals. When handling and caring for animals, basic hygiene measures should always be implemented. This includes hand washing after handling animals, their food, or supplies, as well as avoiding kissing, licking or sharing food.
