Dear Dave Kelly
My main goal for my campaign is to reduce overfishing and inform bystanders about the problem of overfishing and how it can affect our ecosystem. I would appreciate if you would take the steps needed to crack down on illegal fishing here in our Great Barrier Reef. It is important that you support my campaign because overfishing is not being noticed enough and is still occurring because people don’t know our ecosystem is being destroyed by overfishing. We need you to crack down on those who are fishing illegally because during the last financial year, 634 illegal fishing offences were reported on the reef, many of them in the protected “green zones”.
Overfishing has been happening for years and years. Methods like bottom trawling and taking more than what’s needed of targeted species such as tuna is causing stocks to be depleted. Fishing nets catch far more than intended and all the untargeted species or bycatch as it’s known are being caught and are dying for nothing as they are just tossed back into sea. Changes are needed before it’s too late. The reason change must occur is that sea life has a very important role in the ocean and ecosystem. Also, the process is disgusting and needs to come to an end. Finally, some species are in danger and close to extinction. If there are not bigger punishments for those who are fishing illegally the green zones won’t have the benefit on the legal fishing zones that was intended.
Your actions would have a very strong impact to my argument because of you’re very high role in the overfishing campaign. I believe if you were to take action it would have a positive affect and believe you should take action because within the next couple of years specifically in 2048 if actions are not taken now our ecosystem will be destroyed having an effect to our lifestyle and our planet.
