16 dogs rescued from ‘horrific living conditions’ in Kansas woods

By CNN

KANSAS CITY, Kansas (CNN) — Sixteen rescued dogs are recovering at Kansas City, Kansas (KCK) Animal Services. Rescuers say the dogs were freed from horrific conditions after they were abandoned to live alone in the woods.

KCK Animal Services Director Ashley Scott said the dogs are adjusting remarkably well and will soon be available for adoption.

“All these guys were on heavy thick chains,” Scott said. “They do have wounds from those heavy chains and collars because they were on so tight.”

While executing a search warrant, investigators discovered the 16 dogs. KCK Animal Services brought the dogs to a shelter to be assessed and treated.

“We knew that we could not leave these guys behind. There is no way these animals were getting adequate shelter,” Scott said. “The dog houses were falling apart. They were standing in several inches of mud and water. They had no food and no water.”

Rescuers hiked and used ATVs to bring the dogs out of the woods safely.

“We had to hike the rest of the way by foot. It was too muddy for a military grade ATV to get to,” Scott said. “I would say it was about a quarter mile into the woods. We were able to take one dog at a time.”

Scott said once the dogs are spayed or neutered, they will be ready to find new homes.

“They were so happy to be out of that environment. They’ve given nothing but love to us so far,” Scott said. “They are all very sweet and very gentle even with other animals.”

Friends of KCK Animal Services are collecting donations for medical care for the rescued dogs.

“This is why I do what I do. We can take an animal living in those conditions with no love, and they are resilient and forgiving even when they shouldn’t be,” Scott said. “We can try to give them the best life that they should have always had.”

Summer and Companions

This post will be short. Quite frankly, I’m tired of treating companions for heat exhaustion and stroke.

Stop leaving your companions outside during hot days. Don’t leave them in the car either. Even for 5 minutes. Your car is like an oven.

Like young children they can’t regulate their body temperature. The heat will literally cook their brain. First signs of heating problems. Over excessive drooling. Panting more heavily. And then they sieze.

Moreover, if you don’t seek medical help they will die.

Police have given permission in most states for civilians to break animals out of your car. So don’t be surprised if you come to find a broken window and your animal at a Veterinarian Hospital.

You WILL NOT get your animal back either.

It’s your responsibility to keep them safe and healthy. If you can’t hold up to your responsibilities then you don’t deserve to have companion animals.

Cats Need Claws: Petition

About 2 years ago, I created a petition, to get the barbaric declawing of cats abolished. I have been in talks with my representative and as many know, that representative has been stonewalling me. Saying things like we can’t put that on the docket right now, or not enough people are interested in said petition. yet over the years, the petition has accumulated 3,999 signatures. If it reaches 5,000 according to Change.Org, the petition could get media attention. (Not that I want or need that kind of attention, yet if it helps get this barbarity abolished so be it.)

With that being said, I will continue to push this issue, no matter how many times I may get stonewalled, or even ignored by the local Legislator. In addition, if I have to expand our petition to “All 50 States”. I will.

Therefore, I am asking once again for people to sign and share widely. So we can make this goal. Of getting declawing abolished for good.

Cats need claws since they cannot live a normal life without them. It’s like cutting off your knuckles, and I’m pretty sure a lot of people would be out of work if their knuckles, let alone their hands were all mangled. Cats have Jobs too, in fact, many Cats are Barn Cats, and their job is keeping rodents away from crops and feed. Then those who have cats as companions, also use them to keep rodents out of the house. And as much as I do love all animals including the little rodents, they cannot be in a person’s household, since they can spread illness and fleas. I allow my cats to track the mice, and I immediately place a humane trap, lined with peanut butter, cheese or veggies in front of where they may come in. I transport these mice to a faraway, field after they go into the traps. Now, I could not do this without my cats, and they would not be able to track without their claws.

And I’ll tell you why because if they were declawed, their mental status would be changed. They would be more focused on their paws, they would “shake” their paws with each step they took and they would lose balance. If they were declawed.

I’ve seen this too many times at the vet office I visit. These cats that have been declawed, act differently, the reason being is they are in pain, and with each step, it is completely painful.

However, I must state this, the Vet office I visit is completely against declawing. The cats that come in had it done elsewhere, and the Vets there are constantly explaining to these owners why their cats are acting out of the ordinary. There is NO REVERSAL for declawing, once done that’s it. Damage is done.

So yes, there are vets out there who will do this barbaric act of mutilation and not think twice. And these are the places that need restrictions and why I want to have this practice of declawing abolished.

Cats need their claws for more than just hunting and their job as rodent stoppers. They need their claws for Stretching, being able to grip is essential to them. Climbing to get away from others or an overly playful pup/dog. They need their claws for protection, because there is no guarantee you can keep your cat in doors 24/7. Trust me I know they are little escape artists/ninjas. And the last thing they need their claws for, is balance, yes balance. Tails can only help for so long when it comes to balance, yet their claws. When a cat is declawed, it’s not at all like clipping nails. Declawing is amputating the claw and related bone and muscle tissue. Without their claws, cats often have trouble balancing, with each step.

Activists Speak Out Against Turkish Camel Wrestling.

According to News Source Reuters, In Istanbul, Turkey. There is a traditional Camel Wrestling Festival. That attracts thousands of people every year. On Jan 16, This cruel festival garnered attention from Animal Rights Activists who had plenty to say about this.

According to many Activists/Advocates, the camels in question are abused and even injured during the events that take place. According to Reuters, The 40th International Camel Wrestling Festival was held in Selcuk, part of the Aegean province of Izmir, on Sunday with 152 camels sporting saddles and ornamental cloths and embroidery of various patterns and colours on their humps and necks.

The Camels are led/brought into a Sandy Arena where they are pitted against each other. Although According to Reuters they are equipped with muzzles to “prevent” bite wounds. Allegedly there is also other personnel in the ring with the camels, along with a Referee.

Gulgun Hamamcioglu, the Izmir representative for the Animal Rights Federation (HAYTAP), said goading animals to fight each other was a “big crime”. “You see an animal, a live being fight in front of you and it is suffering, is wounded and maybe they kill each other. People enjoy this and maybe make a financial profit,” she said. “Please let’s all together stop this picture of shame, this scene that makes us ashamed of humanity,” Hamamcioglu added.

Unfortunately, Turkey Does not have laws against camel wrestling and these matches last 10 to 15 minutes at a time. If this happened in the states it would be a major animal abuse crime. This kind of event should not be forcing Camels to fight. Even if they have muzzles, the camels still become injured by that blunt face gear, not to mention the body blows that camels do. It still leaves the camel injured with wounds. If you have ever watched a Documentary with camels fighting (during mating) you would know how powerful these body blows are.

Male Camels are aggressive during the mating season especially, when a female is near and in heat. Male Camels will literally fight to the death, just to ensure they can pass on their genes. Additionally not just camels, yet Monkeys, Lions and other animals will do the same. In their world it is actually survival of the fittest.

If you want to have a camel festival, how about we judge them based on Health, and looks. This way no animal is harmed during the festival. Just a thought. Respect the animal instead of destroying.

It’s time to break away from barbaric traditions, create new ones that don’t entail violence of animals or humans for that matter. We as people need to do better.

Read more of the Camel Wrestling here: https://www.reuters.com/world/middle-east/animal-rights-activists-slam-turkish-camel-wrestling-festival-2022-01-16/?fbclid=IwAR29DxzgkJr9YoIUBtlWW3lvDVsuNH_xXJ3-i_6ONdD-kpma3Gj9HP8sK-A

Necip Cotura, who has three camels and participates in the festival as a hobby, said the event was a longtime tradition. “It is something that is done with love. It is not a fight, it is wrestling – just like how humans wrestle,” he said.

Wrestling is actual Staged fighting when it concerns humans, they barely touch each other and they, the wrestlers are professionals and go under immense training. CAMELS literally hit each other with “Body Blows and Kicks”. You cannot compare this to a human sport. Forcing animals to fight/wrestle IS NOT LOVE. You are FORCING the Camel to go against the natural order. This is the kind of Twisted Mentallity that gets Animals Culled and Euthanized.

I agree with Mrs. Hamamcioglu, we need to come together and end this violent tradition of using animals as entertainment purposes. Find other ways for entertainment one that does involve harming animals.

If people truly respected or loved their animals, this would not be a thing. It would have been abolished ages ago. It’s time to start protesting the government for change, light that fire for change. Animals Should Have Rights EVERYWHERE.

Pipeline Spilling 300,000 Gallons Kills Fish and Other Animals.

On Dec 27, 2021, in New Orleans a pipe bursts and spills 300,000 Gallons into two artificially made ponds. Killing Fish, Birds. and other wildlife. According to the State and Local Official, a majority of the fuel was recovered.

Yet that’s not the point is it? Animal Life was lost due to yet, another pipeline burst.

According to the pipeline owner. The spill from the 16-inch-diameter line operated by Collins Pipeline Co. was discovered on Dec. 27 near a levee in St. Bernard Parish, just east of New Orleans, according to documents from the Pipeline and Hazardous Materials Safety Administration.

An inspection of the 42-year-old Meraux Pipeline more than a year earlier, in October 2020, revealed external corrosion along a 22-foot section of pipe in the same area as the spill. But repairs were delayed and the line continued operating after a subsequent inspection indicated the corrosion was not bad enough to require work immediately under federal regulations, according to the pipeline agency.

Let me remind the people of how serious Corrosion is when it comes to pipelines. Or how dangerous it is when ship hauls are weak.

On July 25, Japanese ship MV Wakashio struck a coral reef on the southeast coast of Mauritius, spilling thousands of tons of fuel into the ocean. Soon the crystal-clear water turned black, triggering an environmental catastrophe.

The New Orleans spilled fuel also contaminated soil in an environmentally sensitive area near the Mississippi River Gulf Outlet, a closed canal, according to state and federal officials. A small amount of diesel remains in the two borrow pits, said Louisiana Department of Environmental Quality spokesman Gregory Langley.

Fuel Companies like BP and Collins do not care about the environment, they are killing everything slowly, and for what? GREED!

If Fuel Companies cannot stick to protocols and safety management, then what’s the point of even having a pipeline? Why not just spill it completely and kill everything right now instead of slowly. Get it over with, and by the time you want to collect that cash, you’ll have no customer base.

This is exactly one of the most important reasons why the majority of advocates are speaking up for NEW SOURCES of CLEAN FUEL. I understand switching from OIL to either Hydro, Corn, or Wind power is expensive. However, in the long run, it is worth it. You would be producing more jobs, truckers would be able to safely transport the water, corn oil, and or wind turbines. Companies would be able to make money from a cleaner fuel source. Everyone would win in this scenario.

Because you can’t get sick off of Corn Oil, Water/Hydro, or even Wind. The fact that companies say there is no money in cleaner fuel sources, is hyperbolic. The electric fuel source for cars – they’re making the figures to keep them around. To be fair the majority of people actually want a cleaner way of life, which is why many have switched to “Solar Power” and “Electric Cars”.

Besides that, these Oil Companies have Nearly Depleted these fossil fuels, there really isn’t much left. And this is also why gas prices have risen. Supply and Demand. It’s time to switch to a cleaner source of fuel.

This year should be the year where companies switch. It’s 2022 we should be more advanced by now. We should be on the cleaner path, we only have one planet, there is no escape when this planet dies off completely. Look at Mars for that example.

Animals need infrastructure, too

$350 million of Biden’s INVEST in America Act isn’t for people. It’s for wildlife that needs help crossing the road. By Ben Goldfarb  Nov 12, 2021, 10:00am EST

A bear walking across a mountain path.

Fifty miles east of Seattle, a bridge crosses a steep stretch of Interstate 90 known as Snoqualmie Pass. This is no ordinary bridge, meant for automobiles or pedestrians. Covered in topsoil, boulders, and seedlings, it is intended to convey wild animals from one side of the highway to the other — and it’s working.

Since 2018, when the bridge opened and the first animal, a coyote, scampered over the six lanes below, the structure has carried creatures as large as elk and as small as toads. And it should attract even more users as the seedlings grow into trees and animals acclimate to its presence.

“As we get more shade, it’s going to be different,” Patty Garvey-Darda, a Forest Service wildlife biologist, told Vox during a recent visit to Snoqualmie Pass. “Hopefully someday we’ll see the exact same species up here as we see in the forest.”

The Snoqualmie Pass bridge is one example in a broader category of infrastructure, known as wildlife crossings, that help animals circumvent busy roads like I-90. Crossings come in an array of shapes and sizes, from sweeping overpasses for grizzly bears to inconspicuous tunnels for salamanders. A body of research demonstrates that crossings can reconnect fragmented wildlife populations while protecting human drivers and animals alike from dangerous vehicle crashes. “This structure is paying for itself because of the accidents we haven’t had,” said Garvey-Darda, as trucks roared by 35 feet below.

The construction of such crossings has never been more urgent. Roadkill rates have risen over the past half-century; today, around 12 percent of North American wild mammals die on roads. And new satellite tracking and genetic technologies have revealed subtler harms. Busy interstates prevent herds of elk and mule deer from migrating to low-elevation meadows in winter, occasionally causing them to starve. In California, freeways have thwarted mountain lions from mating, leaving the cats so inbred that they’ve fallen into an “extinction vortex.” Wildlife crossings allow animals to find food and each other across sundered landscapes and help them access new habitats as climate change scrambles their ranges.

New Jersey Bans the Sale of Cosmetics Tested on Animals

Beauty products

The sale of cosmetics tested on animals will be banned in New Jersey beginning next year.

According to a new law signed by Gov. Phil Murphy on Monday, any cosmetic item tested on animals, whether that testing took place in or out of state, cannot be sold in New Jersey starting March 2022. New Jersey previously banned in-state animal testing, according to NJ.com.

The legislation was among dozens that Murphy signed on Monday as lawmakers returned from a months-long break. It passed unanimously in the State Senate and Assembly with bipartisan support.

Several companies, including Lush, The Herbs and the Bees, and US Organic Group, also supported the legislation.

Beginning on March 1, 2022, the sale of cosmetic products tested on animals will be prohibited, with a few exceptions, like if “the animal test is required by a federal or State regulatory authority” or if the “ingredient that requires an animal test is in wide use and cannot be replaced by another ingredient,” according to the legislation.

Owner faces Animal Cruelty Charges.

The owner of 3 missing zebras faces animal cruelty charges. One caught in a snare died, while another in the herd has died in PG County

By Kristin Danley-Greiner, Patch Staff.

PRINCE GEORGE’S COUNTY, MD — Two zebras remain on the lam in Prince George’s County and their owner now faces three counts of animal cruelty. A third zebra originally on the loose was caught in a snare and died from its injuries mere feet from an enclosure where the herd of 36 zebras is kept.

Snare traps are illegal in Prince George’s County and the animal’s death is being investigated. Initially, it was reported that five zebras had escaped, but authorities later said only three originally escaped from the farm. All charges are related to the zebras at large.

Prosecutors say Jerry Lee Holly, 76, the owner of the exotic animal farm where the zebras lived, did not provide proper care and sustenance to his zebras, according to charging documents.

An investigator with the Maryland Department of Natural Resources said in charging documents that “the animal should have been seen or heard while it was dying from being caught in the snare if the caretaker had attended to the zebras in the fenced enclosure.”
