Don’t Let Allegedly Neglectful and Spiteful Shelter Kill its Animals – Animal Petitions

Target: Kristen Donmoyer, Director of Pennsylvania Bureau of Dog Law Enforcement

Goal: Investigate licensing of shelter that allegedly neglects and mishandles animals under its care.

Protests mounted, drawing national attention, as the planned death date of a Pennsylvania shelter dog neared. Community members, current and former volunteers at the Humane Society of Harrisburg, and even lawmakers urged the society to reverse its decision to euthanize Pursuit, its longest-standing canine. As the hour drew closer, word emerged that a volunteer had removed Pursuit from the shelter. A theft complaint was reportedly filed by the humane society a short time later. In the end, this animal’s life was saved, but his plight highlights what employees apparently say are still-lingering problems within the shelter.

Lanternfly population continues to grow

At first glance, the adult lanternfly is a beautiful spectacle with spotted, bright red wings and a little bumble bee-esque body. But as the species continues its trek across the U.S., federal and state officials have a unified message: If you come across the insect, kill it.

The lanternfly is an invasive species from China that wreaks havoc on agriculture. They aren’t physically harmful to humans, but they threaten everything from oak, walnut and poplar trees to grapes, almonds and fruit orchards. It was first detected in the U.S. in Pennsylvania in 2014, but it has now spread to at least nine states, primarily in the Northeast. Growing numbers have been spotted in New York City this summer.

Although we value all life here at Guardians Of Life. This specific insect is causing havoc with the ecosystem.

Therefore we urge people to follow the request officials have put forth. Otherwise, a majority of food source as well as habitat for animals and people will be diminished.

We also urge businesses who use overseas transports to examine their cargo before allowing their shipments to come through, in order to lessen the access of Lanternflys.

Precautions should be taken. No matter what.

Crafting For The Homeless

With colder weather coming soon. If you have a hobby like knitting, crocheting or tailoring or quilting. Many people have become homeless due to the pandemic. They’ll need Scarves, hats, gloves, blankets and warm clothing.

They’re struggling to provide for themselves and family.

Help them by making these items and donating to Goodwill, Salvation Army, food pantries. Or directly to the homeless shelters in your areas.

There are tons of free crocheting, knitting, tailoring and quilting patterns on the web and Pinterest and Even Instagram.

When donating food it must be shelf stable. Something that will last awhile. Non-perishables.

It may not be much yet every little bit helps.

Petition Update

I have been debating whether or not to share this news with everyone. It breaks my heart that our Government in the state of Pennsylvania is heartless.

My correspondence:

Subject: Petition Signatures: Outlaw Cat Declaw ■ EXTERNAL EMAIL ■

To Representatives, Senators and Lt Governor,I have attached the following document for you to look over. With the hopes that you will come to a logical and fair decision. The document contains over 850 signatures requesting that Pennsylvania, follow suit with New York, and outlaw the barbarity that is cat declawing.I am also including the link to the petition, https://www.change.org/p/pennsylvania-governor-outlaw-the-declawing-of-cats
Declawing of cats has been a part of managing the scratching behavior of objects in cats. However, this barbaric tradition to protect ”items” and other material possession has caused more harm than good. Declawing cats has left them physically and mentally scarred for life.
We sit here on the precipice of destroying our beloved companions just to protect a few pieces of furniture or walls. All of which can easily be replaced, repaired and or protected by other humane ways.

Declawing of cats should never be an option. Scratching objects and or trees is a natural instinct for cats. The Medical drawbacks to declawing include pain in the paw, infection, tissue necrosis (tissue death), lameness, and back pain. Removing claws changes the way a cat’s foot meets the ground and can cause pain similar to wearing an uncomfortable pair of shoes.

Those who declaw their cats are basically torturing cats for a lifetime. Some cats, even big cats in zoos go through life never placing full weight on paws, some even developed a mental disorder. Leading them to constantly lick and or shake their paw uncontrollably.

Not to mention if cats should escape outside how would they ever defend themselves against other cats or wildlife? They wouldn’t and due to that inability to defend or climb a tree, they would most likely die.

Why declaw when There are many alternatives to declawing that doesn’t leave a hazardous effect. Such as having professional clip nails as they do for dogs. Nail caps that can be adjusted to their size. And then there is double-sided tape to protect walls and door frames. Bumpers to protect furniture and non-toxic apple bitter to deter them from scratching up surfaces.

There’s also an environmentally friendly cat tree. Made of hemp, cardboard, dead tree bark and sea rope. All of which is biodegradable and reusable.

Declawing should be nonexistent, it should be considered animal cruelty and punishable if done/practiced by any person.
I thank you for your time and understanding.

Regards Mrs. Mary Robbins

Their Response

The fact that it took them 6 months is appalling. Don’t even get me started on meetings. This is a blanket statement and a complete letdown. If the state of Pennsylvania refuses to hear their people then it’s time to go over heads.

I don’t trust the Secretary of Muth. If Muth was so involved with animal welfare there would be a TNR program in place. There would be NO-Kill shelters and there would be no open door policy shelters either.

There are now over 3,000 signatures plenty to get the ball rolling with the upper legislation via the POTUS/House/Senate legislation. I will continue to push this issue.

Stop Pandemics at the Source – Ban Live Animal Markets and Factory Farms

By: Animal Place

COVID-19 has forever changed our world. In one year, 115 million global cases of COVID-19 have been confirmed. And sadly, 2.5 million people around the world have died. In the United States, over 28.7 million cases have been confirmed and over half a million people have died.

Most infectious diseases can be traced back to animals, including COVID-19. Large live animal markets provide a perfect breeding ground for a pandemic. So do the livestock auctions and live animal markets of the United States.

But how different is a live animal market abroad or in the U.S. compared to an industrial chicken farm in the United States? The similarities are frightening. 99% of animals raised in the US come from large-scale operations where stressed and terrified animals are crammed into small spaces often living in their own feces and other bodily fluids.

That’s why calling for an end to wild animal markets is not enough. It is time to make a change. To prevent pandemics like coronavirus we must end the demand for animal flesh and go vegan.

Stop pandemics where they start. Sign our petition today and demand an end to live animal markets and industrial factory farms.

Petition: Don’t Annihilate Entire Colony of Cliff Swallows – ForceChange

Target: Caroline Mulroney, Minister, Ministry of Transportation Ontario

Goal: Protect the colony of Cliff Swallows under the Argyle Bridge before it is demolished.

The Argyle Bridge in Ontario is home to the largest colony of Cliff Swallows in the area. Yet it is slated for demolition and reconstruction, posing a serious threat to the birds. The new bridge design does not allow the swallows to make nests as they cannot build on a metal structure, putting the 65 current nests and their residents in danger. Animal protection regulations are being blatantly ignored since any colony over eight nests must be protected.

The government is paying $2 million to protect the local mussel population in the water, but refuses to make any changes to help the Cliff Swallows. This is especially negligent since simple solutions, such as coating the metal beams, would allow the swallows to safely nest.

Sign this petition to urge the government to responsibly care for a protected migratory species, and safeguard the Cliff Swallows.

PETITION LETTER:

Dear Honourable Mulroney,

The destruction of the Argyle Bridge also spells destruction for the Cliff Swallows that find homes under its arches. Simple measures can be taken to make the new bridge a suitable habitat for these animals, yet your government is failing to take adequate measures.

The 65 nests under the bridge make perhaps the largest colony in southern Ontario, and it is negligent to ignore the significance of a nest site of this magnitude.

The project is clearly concerned about its environmental impact, as indicated by the vigilance of the mussels in the water, and I urge you to safeguard all animals who are impacted by this construction.

Protect the vulnerable Cliff Swallows under Argyle Bridge.

Sincerely,

President-elect Joe Biden has pledged to ban new oil and gas leasing

President-elect Joe Biden has pledged to ban new oil and gas leasing on America’s federal public lands and waters on Day One of his administration.

Nearly a quarter of the country’s total greenhouse gas emissions come from public lands due to coal mining and oil and gas drilling. We can’t keep leasing public lands to the fossil fuel industry and have any chance of reducing emissions or seriously confronting the climate crisis.

And due to Trump’s executive orders of undermining the Environmental Protection Act, along with the Water Protection Act. Big companies such as BP and Keystone, are free to muddy our waters with chemicals. Whilst also spewing poisonous gases into our ozone layer.

Just because Biden pledged to halt and undo Trump’s actions doesn’t necessarily mean he’ll DO. Let’s make him keep his words. By using our voices and signature.

Sign the petition and share.

No More Starving Farm Animals: Petition

Farm Animal Rescue started this petition to Managing Director, Meat and Livestock Australia Richard Norton and 1 other

In 2018 the public were mortified by hundreds of images of starving animals on Australian farms in yet another year of drought.

The Bureau of Meteorology has issued a statement to say that they are expecting lower than average rainfall and higher than average temperatures through Spring into early Summer, resulting in a “low chance of recovery for drought-affected areas”.

Despite these forecasts there is no indication from either the meat or dairy industry that breeding programs will be restricted to accommodate much lower feed availability in the coming year. Instead farmers are culling Australian wildlife in a hope that this will allow sufficient pasture to remain.

We call on Meat & Livestock Australia and Dairy Australia to significantly restrict breeding programs to avoid a repeat of the mass starvation of farm animals seen this year and to preserve Australia’s wildlife. Farm animals are sentient beings who suffer dreadfully if not adequately fed and it is simply immoral to breed an animal that you cannot feed.

We ask that Meat & Livestock Australia and Dairy Australia take firm action to bring breeding under control so that they can guarantee that no animal suffers from starvation on any Australian farm in 2019.

UK – Ban the Import and Export of Hunting Trophies Now: Petition

Siobhan Mitchell started this petition to Prime Minister Boris Johnson

We demand an end to the import and export of hunting trophies from Britain, and urge Boris Johnson to follow through on his message of 2019 calling for an end to this barbaric practice.

The Government is currently running a consultation on the import and export of hunting trophies. This petition is to express support for Option 3 in the consultation, which would mean a ban on all hunting trophies entering or leaving the UK.

As the director of the Campaign To Ban Trophy Hunting, I’ve long fought for an end to this barbaric practise. Killing animals for ‘trophies’ is cruel, unnecessary, and indefensible for the following reasons:

Studies show that many species targeted by trophy hunters are social, emotional, intelligent beings. Killing them for ‘sport’ goes against basic civilised values. So-called ‘canned hunting’ – breeding animals in captivity and then shooting them in enclosures – is the height of immorality.

Saying that trophy hunting of endangered species is beneficial to conservation, but that illegal poaching of the same species is harmful, makes no sense. Adding needless persecution to the growing threats faced by wildlife from habitat loss and climate change is even more senseless.

The laws on hunting and conservation are untenable. Locals can be punished for killing a wild animal simply to survive, but wealthy foreigners are able to pay for the privilege to shoot the same animal for ‘sport’ and ‘selfies’.

Britain has given taxpayer-funded aid to projects that support a ‘sport’ for the elite which entrenches social inequalities, as well as normalises killing of wildlife for pleasure. This must end.

We are now seeing potentially disastrous ‘artificial selection’ in many species. The size of elephant tusks and other animals’ horns is getting smaller. Killing large males reduces genetic diversity, making it less likely those species can adapt to global warming.

Governments everywhere should adopt the precautionary principle of conservation. The burden of proof must be shifted to the proponents of trophy hunting.

Policy-makers, scientists, businesses and conservation groups should work together to support sustainable economic development that creates prosperity for local communities through preserving natural heritage.

Trophy hunting has no place in the modern world. By banning hunting trophy imports and exports, Britain can help begin to close this chapter in our history.

We urge the Government to implement Option 3 as quickly as possible, and to work with other Governments to help end all trophy hunting. Sign this petition if you agree.
